Recipe 1: Victorian Mourning Cakes

Ingredients:

    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

    • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

    • 3 eggs, at room temperature

    • 1/2 cup dark molasses

    • 1 tbsp caraway seeds

    • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

    • 2 tsp ground cardamom

    • 1 tsp ground ginger

    • 1/4 tsp salt

    • Powdered sugar (optional – for dusting)


Instructions

Instructions:

    1. Preheat the oven to 350F.

    1. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

    1. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the molasses.

    1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the caraway seeds, flour, cardamom, ginger, and salt.

    1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until well combined.

    1. Divide the batter into mini Bundt pans and bake for 25-28 minutes.

    1. Dust with powdered sugar before serving2.
