Orion Choco Pie has earned its reputation as a beloved snack enjoyed around the world, combining a soft, tender cake with a fluffy marshmallow center and a rich chocolate coating. For me, it’s more than just a treat—it’s a taste that brings back memories of childhood moments shared with family, where the simple pleasure of biting into one felt like a small celebration.
Ingredients
For the Cake Layers:
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
1/2 cup granulated sugar
-
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
-
1 large egg
-
1/4 cup milk
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
1 tsp baking powder
-
Pinch of salt
For the Marshmallow Filling:
-
1 cup marshmallow fluff or marshmallow creme
-
2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Coating:
-
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
-
1 tbsp vegetable oil or coconut oil (for smooth coating)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Cake Layers:
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
-
Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating well.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
-
Drop tablespoons of batter onto the baking sheet to form small, round cakes about 2 inches in diameter. Flatten slightly with the back of a spoon.
-
Bake for 8–10 minutes or until the cakes are lightly golden and spring back when touched. Let cool completely.
2. Make the Marshmallow Filling:
-
In a bowl, mix the marshmallow fluff, softened butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
3. Assemble the Pies:
-
Pair up the cooled cake rounds by size.
-
Spread about 1 tablespoon of marshmallow filling on the flat side of one cake, then sandwich with the matching cake on top. Press gently to seal.
4. Coat with Chocolate:
-
Melt the chocolate and oil together in a microwave-safe bowl or over a double boiler until smooth.
-
Dip each marshmallow sandwich into the melted chocolate, ensuring it’s fully coated. Use a fork to lift and let excess drip off.
-
Place the coated pies on a parchment-lined tray. Refrigerate until the chocolate sets, about 30 minutes.
